Statement on the Passing of Chief Rhonda Larrabee
The Board of the New Westminster Homelessness Coalition Society was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Qayqayt First Nation Chief Rhonda Larrabee. We extend our healing thoughts to her family and the Qayqayt Nation.
As a long-time friend of our Coalition, she always made time in her busy schedule to attend our events, offering thoughtful words that encouraged others to listen more closely. She understood the importance of belonging, and the role we all play in creating communities where people feel seen and valued. Her presence reminded us that this work is fundamentally about relationships, respect, dignity and care.
Her passion for this community, her kindness, and warm smile will be greatly missed.
Chief Rhonda Larrabee exemplified a kind of leadership that is grounded in a deep respect for the dignity and value of all people. Her generous, nuanced and dedicated representation of her culture and people was an invitation to engage in meaningful reconciliation in a collaborative way. Her presence and leadership will be deeply missed.
